Poetry in Chicago believes that poetry has the power to transform lives. Our vision is to create a community where people can come together to experience poetry in all its forms and to be inspired by the creativity of others.
There is a vibrant community of poets in Chicago and the surrounding area who need one site to unite them, to support them, to be a safe haven. Poetry in Chicago embraces poets and poetry in a post-COVID world where artists need a sense of belonging and affirmation.
We're proud to showcase the work of some of the most talented artists from around the Chicago area. If you are interested in featuring with Poetry in Chicago, please send us an email at poetryinchicago.org
C. Schandelmeier is perhaps best known as the founder and host of the Beach Poets, which she founded in 1990 on North Avenue Beach when the venue she was hosting was closed down. Poetry in Chicago is her brain child because the city of Chicago needs one site dedicated solely to the poets in Chicago and the surrounding area.
